Jose M. Rodriguez-Ibabe
Industrial Engineer (1980) and Doctor of Engineering (1984) from the University of Navarra (Spain). He is Professor of Materials Science and Metallurgy in Tecnun (High Engineering School, University of Navarra). He joined Ceit-IK4 Research Institute in 1984 as a researcher in Materials and Manufacturing Division. His field of research is the Metallurgy of steels and, more specifically, the thermomechanical processing of steels with high added value. His research activity is mainly focused on the interactions between mechanical property-microstructure-processing of metallic materials.
He has published 120 papers in journals and near 220 contributions in national and international conferences, 6 books and has graduated 19 doctoral students. He has taken part, as a director or participant, in more than 90 R+D+i projects (public and private funding).
He has received the following six international awards, together with his research team:
– Meritorious Award (2000, Iron and Steel Society, USA)
– Vanadium Award (2001, Institute of Material, UK)
– Charles Hatchett Award (2003, Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, UK)
– Gilbert R. Speich Award (three times: 2012, 2013 y 2016, Association for Iron and Steel Technology, USA).
During 2002-2012, he has been the President of Elhuyar Foundation, institution devoted to the popularization of science and technology in the Basque Country and deputy research director in Tecnun (University of Navarra). Nowadays, he is president of Ceit-IK4 Research Institute, located in San Sebastian (Spain).
