She is a research scientist at the Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville (IRNAS-CSIC). She got her PhD in 2004 at the University of Granada (Granada, Spain). The work developed in her thesis on plant-plant interactions applied to the restoration of degraded systems had a large international impact and constitutes a reference in its area. In 2005 she got a MEC/Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship to continue her research at the prestigious Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies (New York, USA) analyzing the impacts of invasive tree species on temperate forests. She returned to Spain in 2007 with a Juan de la Cierva fellowship at IRNAS-CSIC (Seville). In 2009 she got a Ramón & Cajal fellowship and later a permanent position at the Forest Research Center (National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology). In 2010 she moved back to IRNAS-CSIC, where she currently leads the research group on Mediterranean Forest Systems.

    Traveset, Anna

Research Professor at the Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies (IMEDEA), a joint center of the Spanish Research Council and the University of the Balearic Islands. She obtained her PhD in 1989 at the University of Pennsylvania (USA), investigating on plant-animal interactions in the tropical dry forest of Costa Rica. After two years of postdoc at Estación Biológica de Doñana (CSIC), she moved to Mallorca where she currently leads the Terrestrial Ecology Laboratory. Although she has participated in different projects in the continent (e.g. Alaska, Mexico, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, several European countries), her research focuses mainly on insular systems, exploring how biotic interactions influence the regeneration and distribution of plants in them, and how such interactions are disrupted by different drivers of global change. Currently, she works on three research lines: (1) determining the effectiveness of vertebrates as pollinators and dispersers of island plants, (2) evaluating -using the network theory approach- the vulnerability and resilience of mutualistic networks to different types of disturbances (mostly biological invasions, habitat loss, and climate change), and (3) studying trophic relationships at the land-sea interface on small islands, biodiversity sanctuaries. She coordinates projects and leads expeditions in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Galapagos and Seychelles.
