    He was both an undergraduate and a PhD student in mathematics at the University of Valladolid (1970-1977). His thesis was on functional analysis. In 1978-1979, he followed an MSc course in Numerical Analysis in Dundee (Scotland). He has occupied permanent positions at the University of the Basque Country (1980-1982) and University of Valladolid (1982-2014) and currently holds an Excellence Chair at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

    He was born in Madrid (1959). He obtained a degree in Mathematical Sciences in 1982 at Universidad Complutense de Madrid with Honors and National Prize. He finished his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Texas A&M University in 1987. He completed a postdoctoral stay at the City University of New York in 1989. He obtained the position of Associated Professor in the Statistics Department of Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1988 and was an Associated Professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he is Professor of Statistics and Operations Research since 1996. In that University he has been Vice-Rector of Graduate Studies, and for Faculty and Departments.

    He was born in Zaragoza in 1951, Licenciado (Bachelor) in Mathematical Sciences in 1973 in Universidad de Zaragoza, he was recognized with the university award ” Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura”. Further, He also received the “Premio Nacional de Licenciatura en Matemáticas”, a Spanish award. He obtained a PhD degree in the same University in December 1976.

    Since October 1991 He is Catedrático (Full Professor) of Applied Mathematics in the Departament of Matemáticas, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, after positions as Associated and Full Professor in the universities of Zaragoza, Santiago de Compostela and Politécnica de Madrid. He is also a faculty researcher of the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT-CSIC-UAM-UCM- UC3M) since December 2013.
