M. Francisca Abad-Garcia
Professor of the area of librarianship and documentation of the Department of History of Science and Documentation. School of Medicine. University of Valencia. She holds a PhD in Medicine Surgery from the University of Valencia, a Master’s Degree in Medical Documentation from the University of Valencia and a Master’s Degree in Information Studies from the University of Sheffield (UK).
Her research priorities are: Planning and evaluation of information systems. Development of virtual libraries. Open access to science. Metric studies on science, and publication and scientific ethics. Within this framework she has been responsible for the implementation and development of the Childhood Cancer Registry of the Province of Valencia linked to the Ministry of Health of the Valencian Community. She has been the director of the Virtual Medical Library of the College of Physicians of the province of Valencia and she was also commisioned by University of Valencia as the coordinator for the implementation of the open access repository (RODERIC) of this university.
She is member of the research group accesoabierto.net, which has consolidated its activities within the framework of three research projects funded by the National Research Plan of the Ministry of Education and Science. This group is responsible for the creation of reference tools such as DULCINEA, the database of Publisher copyright and self-archiving conditions of the Spanish scientific journals and MELIBEA, the directory of policies in favor of open access to scientific production.
She has carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Health, several reports and publications on the scientific production in biomedicine of the Valencian Community and she is now commissioned by the Vice-Rectorate of research of the University of Valencia to prepare reports of evaluation of the scientific activity of the University.
She has published a number of articles in national and international journals with visibility in databases, and is author of books and book chapters and technical reports. She is a member of several editorial committees of scientific journals and has participated in the organization of various conferences and scientific conferences. She has made numerous contributions to conferences and scientific sumposia receiving four awards for the best contribution.
She has been actively involved in university management tasks as head of the clinical documentation unit of the Institut de Estudios Documentales e Históricos sobre la Ciencia (CSIC_UV) and as secretary and head of the Department of History of Science and Documentation of the University of Valencia. She has been elected member of the University of Valencia Senate and elected member of the Board of the Faculty of Medicine. She also as has carried out management activities as a main researcher of several research projects and contracts and as the director of the Master’s in Medical Documentation of the University of Valencia and as vice president of the Spanish Society of Medical Documentation.
