Vice Chairman of Applied Magnetism Institute (IMA) since 1990. Director of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, UCM (1994-2006). National Materials Program Manager (Ministry of Education, 1993-1995). President of the Spanish Society for Electron Microscopy (2001-2006). Chairman of the International Scientific Committee of the European Group of Solid State Chemistry (1999-2001). Member of the International Scientific Committee of the European Group of Solid State Chemistry since 1995.
Spanish Award of the Royal Society of Chemistry (Novel Researcher), 1985. French-Spanish Award 2000 of the Société Française de Chimie. Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry Award in Inorganic Chemistry, 2006.
Co-author of more than 460 publications in the fields of Solid State and Materials Chemistry. Director of 20 doctoral theses. Participant in numerous National and International projects, as principal investigator in 30. His research activity is devoted to the study of the reactivity of solids in order to stablish the structure-properties relationship of functional oxides. He is a recognized scientist in the structural characterization of inorganic materials by means of atomic resolution electron microscopy and associated spectroscopic technics.
