Full Professor of Journalism and a member of the Institute on Social Welfare Policy (POLIBIENESTAR) at the University of Valencia. Also, she is a member of the advisory board of the Studies Centre on Science, Communication, and Society from the Pompeu Fabra University (CCS-UPF); and is a member of the director board of the Spanish Association of Science Communication (AECC). She began her research career at the Institute for Advanced Social Studies (IESA) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), in 1993. From then until now, she has published in around hundred works as many national as international studies on the representativeness, the social treatment, and perception of health, the science, the technology and the environment on media and social networks. Among his books, we can highlight Comunicar los riesgos. Ciencia y tecnología en la sociedad de la información (2009), Periodismo y divulgación científica. Tendencias en el ámbito iberoamericano (2011), and Campanñas Institucionales en Salud Pública (2016). All of their works have had a significant impact on media due to her great interest to the transfer of the results of her research to society. At this point, she has been collaborating in the knowledge transfer with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), and with the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI). Also, she has carried out research stays at international centres such as Cornell University (Ithaca, New York); the Austral University (Valdivia, Chile); the Quilmes University and the National University of Tres de Febrero (both of them, in Buenos Aires, Argentina); and at Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts). During the last decade, she has been leading the ScienceFlows group at the University of Valencia (www.scienceflows.com), from where she currently coordinates and leads projects of the national research program and European calls (H2020 and Eramsu+).
She is now the coordinator of the CONCISE projects (H2020-SwafS-19-RIA-2018-2019): Communication role on perception and beliefs of EU Citizens about Science. CONCISE aims at providing qualitative knowledge through citizen consultation on the means/channels (media and social networks, life experience, the opinion of relatives, the influence of religion, political views, ideology, educational system…), by which EU citizens acquire their science-related knowledge, and how this knowledge influences their beliefs, opinions, and perceptions; and PERSIST_EU (2018-1-ES01-KA0203-050827): (Knowledge, Beliefs and Perceptions about Science of European Students. PERSIST_EU we will develop an instrument to assess the quality of science-based training, specifically, focusing on how the student views on certain topics could change after undergoing training. In addition, she participates actively in science popularization activities which are organised by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Valencia, such as “Expociencia”, “Experimenta” or “La noche de los investigadores”.
