Jose M. Sanchez-Ron

He was born in Madrid (1949) and  studied Physics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Afterwards, he received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of London (University College London). He has been profesor titular in Theoretical Physics at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, where since 1994 he is professor of History of Science. In 2003, he was elected member of the Real Academia Española, of which he is vicedirector since January 2016. He is also, 2006, member (membre effectif) of the Académie Internationale d’Histoire des Sciences (París), as well as corresponding member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales. He is author of more than 40 books, among them El origen y desarrollo de la relatividad (1983); Esteban Terradas, 1883-1950. Ciencia y técnica en España, together with Antoni Roca i Rosell (1990), Miguel Catalán. Su obra y su mundo (1994); INTA. 50 años de ciencia y técnica aeroespacial (1997), Cincel, martillo y piedra. Historia de la ciencia en España (siglos XIX y XX) (1999); El mundo de Marie Curie (2000), Energía nuclear en España. De la JEN al CIEMAT, with Ana Romero de Pablos (2001), Historia de la física cuántica, I: El período fundacional (1860-1926) (2004), and Los pilares de la ciencia (2011), with Miguel Artola.

In 2001 he was awarded the Premio Jose Ortega y Gasset de Ensayo y Humanidades of the Villa de Madrid for his book El Siglo de la Ciencia (Taurus 2000), in 2011, the Premio Internacional de Ensayo Jovellanos for La Nueva Ilustración: Ciencia, tecnología y humanidades en un mundo interdisciplinar (Ediciones Nobel, 2011), and in 2016, the Premio Nacional de Ensayo, for his book El mundo después de la revolución. La física de la segunda mitad del siglo XX.
